  • How to Preorder 2013 Beef
Located in the driftless region of northwest Illinois, we raise grass-fed beef on our 242 acre farm.  Our Hereford and Red Angus cattle eat only our own grass and hay, grown without pesticides or herbicides.  Our animals are never given hormone treatments, never fed antibiotics (never needed them!)  The animals have ready access to fresh water from the springfed streams and rivers that run through our pastures.

Our beef has an excellent nutritional profile, as recent testing by Dr. Susan Duckett at Clemson University demonstrates. Our meat overall is significantly lower in calories, lower in fat, lower in saturated fat, lower in cholesterol, than comparable cuts listed in the official USDA National Nutrient Database. In fact, a serving of our tenderloin steak has a similar profile to the USDA's profile of a roasted chicken breast! Click here for the detailed comparisons. Dr. Duckett's research also indicates that grassfed beef is a good source for heart-healthy Omega-3 and CLAs, and is far lower in potentially harmful Omega-6.

Our farm is certified by Animal Welfare Approved* and the American Grassfed Association.  In order to ensure the health and well-being of our animals and the quality of our meat, we adhere to the strict standards these organizations have developed.

*Please note: Greener Choices, Consumer Reports' food label evaluation division, recently wrote that "Animal Welfare Approved is a highly meaningful label that says animals raised for meat, dairy or egg production were treated humanely from birth to slaughter."  See the full report here.
